Sewing is not working out today

I have tried 3 or 4 times today to finish my new sweater purse, but alas, the components are fighting me...or I'm fighting them. Not sure at this point. I think I need a crafting break. No more knitting, or sewing or printing today....or not for the next few hours. It is cold and wet and I think I am feeling a bit despondent. I meant to get my Etsy store set up on the weekend, but the weekend has come and gone and I have not posted anything.

Goal: to post 1 item by tonight at midnight!

Stick around for the results......

Mini Rant...Bunnies are not stuffed animals

The holidays should be a time of joy, but for many bunnies they are a time of fear or death! The shelters are now over crowed with extra bunnies, bunnies who will be put to death because their former owner didn't want to find boarding for them over the holidays. Since rabbits look cute, like a stuffed animal, people don't think of them as real pets. They get a cute baby bunny, and when the bunny gets annoying or is no longer "fun" to have it gets dumped. When you get a bunny, you are making an 8-12 year commitment.

I don't unerstand why people are more than willing to find a pet sitter or bring their cat or dog with them for the holidays, but decided that rabbits are inconvient and so they dump them at the shelter. Pets don't get adopted during the holidays. Shelters usually don't promote rabbits. If the bunny is not adopted, and a rescue cannot take it in, the rabbit get killed a.k.a. euthanized. Happy F'n Holidays to you too!

I could go on, but I won't. You get the picture. End of rant...

Agh...silk purse part 3. I am done!

Well I made one more minor tweak and it made all the difference. I finally figured out how to create a nice box corner so that the purse will stand upright correctly. There is a really helpful blog post about box corners here: http://alemonsqueezyhome.blogspot.com/2010/10/purse-week-kick-off-with-guest-tutorial.html

or here is another really helpful tutorial that I found:http://bluebirdbaby.typepad.com/photos/bag_tutorial/index.html

Of course I find my little perfectionist is still talking to me but now she is whispering rather than yelling. I am done!

Silk Purse part 2....

I ripped it all out. Couldn't stand the purse looking wonky and the neck of the purse being so small (less than 11 inches across). I then added 2 side panels in a contrasting satin fabric, redid the lining and sewed it back up.

It looks better, but I am still not happy with it. I might give it another go tomorrow. I have had enough for tonight. I'll post pictures when I figure out how.

Up-cycled silk sari gathered purse...part 1?

So I had this wonderful piece of silk from an old sari that was just dying to be made into a purse. I attempted it today. Just like my cooking, I tend to experiment...i.e. no pattern. Let's say it was not a roaring success. Since the silk was from an old garment, it was shaped funny. Made for a funny looking purse. I am now faced with the tedious task of either ripping out all the stitches or going with the funny shape. I have a feeling that the little perfectionist that lives within me will not allow a funny looking purse.....I will let it percolate a few hours to see what needs to happen.
